XTEE Tungsten Drill Bits for X10 ADVANTAGES
However, the functional advantages of a Tungsten drill bit compared to a Steel drill are not yet clear to everyone. Almost instinctively, considering the specific weight (Tungsten 19.1 Kg/dm3 – Steel from 7.48 to 7.9 Kg/dm3), we would be led to think that this is the most relevant data when dropped into the archery sphere and in part, it could be true. In fact, there is no doubt that, thanks to the reduced size in length (both inside and outside the shaft), Tungsten products contribute to increasing the FOC of any arrow. However, it should be noted that this increase will be around 2% and only for the most significant pole lengths (from 28″ upwards). For smaller stretches, in fact, this effect will be reduced considerably until it becomes almost negligible in practical terms. For example, a 26″ long arrow with a 110 grain tungsten tip will provide almost the same FOC as the same arrow with a 120 grain steel tip. In the case of “long” shafts, however, particular attention must be paid that the spine of the same is not excessively altered (softened) precisely because of a sharp shift in weight towards the front of our arrow.
Another potential advantage of the “short” tips could also be represented by the reduction of the lateral drift of the arrows in flight that the combination of high weight / reduced length would undoubtedly offer. Even in this case, however, in the best case scenario, we would be talking about a quantifiable decrease of around 3%. But then, why should one expose oneself to an undoubtedly large outlay by switching from Steel to Tungsten?. Simple: for all those residual peculiarities that Tungsten can boast and that we have already mentioned. Ultimately, in fact, Tungsten tips are practically “eternal”. They will not be distorted with use, even intensive, and therefore with repeated impacts even on surfaces that are not exactly exceptionally suitable. By maintaining their straightness over time, moreover, they will safeguard the life of the arrow which, on the other hand, even with very slight “bends” of the tip (in the case of steel, practically fatal) would be unusable in a short time. In conclusion, therefore, we can undoubtedly assert that, in the face of some contraindications that may appear in certain extreme conditions, the adoption of Tungsten Drills will bring in itself advantages, both ballistic (relative), and “practical” (substantial), certainly not negligible.
